A BIT OF BACKGROUND
“Boots & Hats” Charity Line Dancers was formed in January 1998 when the founder members decided to start a fun evening in Vanderbijlpark after watching a Line Dancing video that was bought overseas. It was decided that a small donation would be appreciated for attending each class and this would be used to assist the Local Community.
We still hold classes in Vanderbijlpark, but since 2000 our classes have expanded to Duncanville, Meyerton, Redan, Merrow Down Country Club – Jo...hannesburg, and even as far as Philippolis and Clocolan in the Free State. We attract all ages of people from 10 years old to over 80 years young, as this type of dancing only requires a sense of fun, is good exercise for both the body and mind, and has the advantage of not requiring a partner.
“Boots & Hats” has a keen group of dancers who are always willing to dance at various events and functions. The same rule applies to functions as in the classes. No payment is required but a donation is appreciated. Donations are accumulated and distributed monthly to assist local charities in need of help. When approached to dance at any charity fundraiser, and certain other selected events, the Troupe is always available to assist without remuneration. All dancers give of their free time whenever they can in order to raise as much money as possible to assist needy causes. “Boots & Hats” is a totally non-profit organisation. Everyone involved gives his or her time without any financial reward. Our aim is to always be there to help.
We are also involved in community projects such as teaching line dancing at Eureka School for Mentally Disadvantaged Children.
